Bring a little Disney Halloween magic into your kitchen with this Mango-Habanero Chicken Strips recipe, inspired by the delicious sweet and spicy dish served at Flo’s V8 Cafe in Disney California Adventure during the Halloween season and Oogie Boogie Bash! Crispy chicken strips are tossed in a sticky mango-habanero sauce and served over golden steak fries, finished with creamy ranch dressing and fresh green onions. I wanted to make this recipe easy by using frozen chicken strips and steak fries, but I decided to make the mango-habanero sauce from scratch. This way, I could control the heat and find the perfect balance of sweet mango flavor and spicy habanero kick. The result is a quick, flavorful Disney-inspired meal that’s easy to customize to your own taste!

Cooking Tips

For the best Mango-Habanero Chicken Strips, cook the frozen chicken strips and steak fries until golden brown and extra crispy so they hold up well under the sauce. An air fryer works especially well for achieving that perfect crunch! When making the homemade mango-habanero sauce, start with a small amount of habanero hot sauce and gradually add more until you reach your preferred heat level. The mango preserves and honey balance the spiciness with a delicious fruity sweetness, while the lime juice adds a little tang. If the sauce becomes too thick, stir in a tablespoon of water until it reaches your desired consistency. Toss the chicken strips in the warm sauce just before serving to keep them from getting soggy. Finally, don’t skip the ranch dressing and fresh green onions! The cool, creamy ranch complements the spicy chicken beautifully, while the green onions add a fresh finishing touch.

Description

Inspired by Oogie Boogie Bash, these mango-habanero chicken strips are served over golden steak fries with creamy ranch dressing and fresh green onions for an easy Disney-inspired meal.

Instructions

Cook the chicken strips

  1. Preheat your oven or air fryer according to the frozen chicken strips' package instructions. Arrange the chicken strips in a single layer and cook according to the package directions until hot and crispy. For the best texture, an air fryer works especially well.

Prepare the steak fries

  1. While the chicken cooks, prepare the frozen steak fries according to the package instructions until golden brown and crispy. Keep the fries warm while preparing the sauce.

Make the mango-habanero sauce

  1. In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, combine the mango preserves, habanero hot sauce, honey, lime juice, apple cider vinegar, and garlic powder.

  2. Stir frequently for 3–5 minutes, until the preserves have melted and the sauce is smooth and slightly thickened.
  3. Add 1–2 tablespoons of water if the sauce becomes too thick.
  4. Taste and adjust the heat by adding more habanero hot sauce if desired.

Coat the chicken strips

  1. Place the cooked chicken strips in a large mixing bowl. Pour the warm mango-habanero sauce over the chicken and gently toss until evenly coated. The sauce should create a glossy, sticky coating without making the breading too soggy.

Assemble and serve

  1. Divide the crispy steak fries among four serving plates or baskets.

  2. Arrange the mango-habanero chicken strips over the fries. Drizzle ranch dressing over the chicken and fries, then sprinkle with sliced green onions.
  3. Serve immediately while everything is hot and crispy!
