Oogie Boogie Worms and Dirt Funnel Cake Fries Recipe
First introduced in 2019, Oogie Boogie Worms and Dirt Funnel Cake Fries were a spooky Halloween treat served at Award Wieners in Hollywood Land at Disney California Adventure during Halloween Time and the inaugural Oogie Boogie Bash season. Inspired by the mischievous villain from The Nightmare Before Christmas, this over-the-top dessert featured crispy funnel cake fries topped with crushed Oreo cookies, sweet cream cheese sauce, gummy worms, colorful chocolate candies, and whipped cream. Although this treat was only available for a limited time, my copycat Oogie Boogie Worms and Dirt Funnel Cake Fries recipe brings that delicious Disney Halloween magic home!
Cooking Tips
The key to making perfect Oogie Boogie Worms and Dirt Funnel Cake Fries is keeping your frying oil at a consistent 350°F so the fries turn out golden and crispy without becoming greasy. I like to use a candy thermometer to ensure an even temperature. Pipe the batter into 4- to 5-inch strips and fry in small batches to prevent overcrowding. For the best results, prepare your cream cheese sauce, crushed Oreo cookies, and green whipped cream ahead of time so everything is ready when the fries come out of the oil. Use gel food coloring for the whipped cream to achieve that signature Oogie Boogie green without changing its consistency. When assembling, let the fries cool slightly before adding the toppings so the whipped cream doesn't melt too quickly. Serve immediately while the funnel cake fries are still warm and crispy for the ultimate Disney-inspired Halloween treat!

12–16 gummy worms
1/3cup colorful candy-coated chocolates (such as M&M's)
4additional chocolate sandwich cookies, broken into chunks
Optional: candy corn or other Halloween candies
Instructions
Prepare the Cream Cheese Sauce
1
In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth.
2
Add the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Mix until creamy.
3
Add additional milk, one teaspoon at a time, until the sauce is thin enough to drizzle over the funnel cake fries.
4
Set aside while preparing the remaining ingredients.
Make the Green Whipped Cream
5
Add the cold heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract to a chilled mixing bowl.
6
Beat with an electric mixer on medium-high speed until stiff peaks form.
7
Add a small amount of green gel food coloring and gently mix until the whipped cream reaches a bright Oogie Boogie green.
8
Transfer to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.
9
Refrigerate until ready to serve.
Prepare the Funnel Cake Batter
10
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
11
In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract.
12
Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
13
The batter should be thick but pipeable. If necessary, add milk one tablespoon at a time.
14
Transfer the batter to a sturdy piping bag or large zip-top bag. Cut an opening approximately 1/2 inch wide.
Fry the Funnel Cake Fries
15
Pour approximately 2 inches of vegetable oil into a deep, heavy-bottomed pot.
16
Heat the oil to 350°F (175°C).
17
Carefully pipe 4 to 5-inch strips of batter directly into the hot oil, using kitchen scissors to cut the batter between strips.
18
Fry in small batches for approximately 2–3 minutes total, turning halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
19
Remove with a slotted spoon and transfer to a paper towel-lined plate or wire rack.
20
Repeat with the remaining batter, keeping the oil near 350°F between batches.
Assemble the Oogie Boogie Funnel Cake Fries
21
Arrange the warm funnel cake fries in a shallow serving bowl or on a dessert plate.
22
Sprinkle generously with crushed chocolate sandwich cookies to create the appearance of dirt.
23
Drizzle the cream cheese sauce over the fries.
24
Scatter the additional cookie chunks and colorful chocolate candies over the top.
25
Add a generous swirl of green whipped cream in the center.
26
Arrange gummy worms around the whipped cream and across the funnel cake fries so they appear to be crawling through the dirt.
27
Serve immediately while the fries are warm and crispy.
