Make the cake base: combine ยฝ box of yellow cake mix, 1 egg yolk (reserve the egg white for the topping layer), and 4 tablespoons of butter in a mixing bowl. Stir until smooth.

Spread the mixture in a greased 9x9 pan and press into a smooth, even layer.

Make topping layer: In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese and 2 tablespoons softened butter until smooth. Add an egg plus the egg white from earlier, and vanilla and beat until combined. Add confectioners sugar, one cup at a time. Beat for 2-3 minutes.
